Smouter’s Fruit Blinkt Altijd Uit

Dat onze website een bron van informatie vormt voor nieuwe en asprirantbewoners van de straat, weten we uit de vele Nieuwe Buren interviews en de woningbeschrijvingen die makelaars op Funda plaatsen.

Maar ook oud bewoners van de straat weten de website regelmatig te vinden. Uit nostalgie, om een band te houden met hun oude buurtje of om gewoon even een digitaal kijkje te nemen.

Eén daarvan is Johanna Peetoom, geboren Smouter. Ze is 86 jaar oud (!) en voormalig bewoonster van Graaf Florisstraat 23a (tegenover HobokenRotterdam).

Goede middag,

Ik ben een bewoner van Graaf Florisstraat 23 geweest. Ik ben daar geboren op 11 December 1934 and emigrated to Canada in 1952.
My entire family (one boy and six girls) as well as our children born in Canada are stil vitally interested in the place of their parents birth.

Our father ran a fruit and vegetable store on the corner until he emigrated to Canada with his family. “Smouter’s Fruit Blinkt Altijd Uit” was the slogan on the window of the Store.

I wanted to include this picture. It is of my Mother and I standing in the door opening if our fruit and vegetable store in 1936 approximately. This is the corner of the Graaf Florisstraat and Beatrijstraat I believe.
